The Deepest Thoughtlessness
I recently read a book about Marie Antoinette by Stefan Zweig. The sharp-provoking reading vastly describes the most intimacy of Marie Antoinette in the last days on earth as well as the process which led to such a revolutionary movement that culminated in her death.
Contrary to mass opinion views, I find her not the devil, but also not an angel, just a human being who the refraining from reading and the lack of effort in developing a critical thinking mindset were not in her route guide. She just lived for the fun and the idea of responsibility was not in her own.
Marie Antoinette suffered the most uncured illness: the deepest thoughtlessness. Even in the most shaking moments of the Revolution, she could not understand what was in front of her and which fatal consequences the no - understanding will bring.
Born in Vienna and partly raised in France got married to Louis XVI. As described in the diary after going through the marriage, she wrote after the first night bed; rien. This quote precisely expresses her feelings for Louis throughout her life.
The deep split-up in which Europe was entitled led the marriage between the childish girl and the vague boy. Marie Antoinette, daughter of Maria Teressa belonged to the royal Habsburg house while the future King, Louis XVI was featured the belonging to Borbon House. Both royal families triggered the marriage aiming to "sign the peace" and in turn, not indeed.
The early days of Marie Antoinette in Versailles portray the effortlessness in which Marie Antoinette acted as a future queen of France. The enormous efforts to redress her, even with the most skilled educators were in vain. She showed no interest in any activity that required a minimum intellectual interaction. She run, laughed, and every day just went for two hours easy walks around the green and fine gardens of Versailles.
Thereby, Marie Antoinette treated to escape such a feeling of sadness and anguish being married to Louis. In Marie Antoinette's view, he was a silent guy who seemed to be fully equipped by the sense of laziness, the boredom personalized. He ate and hunted. That was all. A core that kept even in the toughest days when the revolutionary spirit was spread all over France.
The anguish for Louis, primarily led by sexual impotence caused deep pain in Marie Antoinette. As a result, she ordered the move - out to Trianon Palace. At least, during the days, to evade a bit the feeling of unsatisfaction that surrounded her by such a weak man.
The new backyard was born. Marie Antoinette breathed.
To be continued.
